Notes From New York: Where Work Met Alignment
I was flown out to New York for a client pitch, and something about landing in the city for work this time felt different. It wasnβt just another trip. It was a reminder that Iβm rising. That not only have I earned my seat at the tableβIβm leading the conversations at it. Thereβs something magnetic about showing up in spaces where your presence isnβt just welcomed: itβs required. I had meetings, I had deliverables, the week was BUSY. But I also had momentsβquiet ones where I realized, “Oh, I really built this life.”

After the presentation, I did exactly what I deserved: ordered a steak dinner to my room, closed the laptop, and had a moment of silence for the version of me that once prayed for this pace of life. Because yes, itβs a lot. But it’s what I asked for. I took a shower to wash off the busy week, threw on my fancy pajamas, did my intense skincare routine and flipped on “Forever”, if you haven’t watched it yet on Netflix – please do! Mara Brock Akil is sheer genius. I went to bed with a quiet realization that Iβm in a new season. A season where I no longer feel the need to move with urgency, I move with intention.
And even amidst all the chaosβmeetings, deadlines, content deliverablesβI carved out time for me. Because if I’m not pouring into my own cup, I can’t expect others to. I made it a priority to go vintage shopping (a non-negotiable anytime I touch NYC soil) and thatβs where I found herβa rare vintage Chanel that felt like it had been waiting for me. I didnβt hesitate. Because when you work hard, you donβt ask for permission to enjoy the reward.
It sounds so dramatic but this Chanel was a milestone for me, it’s my first Chanel and she found ME. Vintage. Velvet. Green (a color I would’ve never expected for my first Chanel), and if I needed any more convincing, she was made in my birth year. This wasnβt a splurge. It was a celebration. I earned that bag. Luxury feels different when itβs attached to purpose.

While I was in the city, I also popped into Telfarβs new store and attended a spring fashion showβboth experiences reminded me that yes, I am in the industry. But Iβm also shaping my own lane. Quiet luxury, thoughtful style, business and beauty.

Let me be real though: I still believe New York is a psyop…
The way people live, hustle, and survive this level of intensity daily? I can’t imagine. The business of the city is unrelenting. I love the energy for short bursts, but I need my peace. I need space to think, not just produce.
Still, it felt damn good to show up in New York as this version of myself. Sheβs not shrinking. Sheβs not explaining. Sheβs evolvingβand it shows in every move she makes. From the boardroom to the boutique.

This trip reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. To create from truth. To rise in my career without sacrificing my authenticity. To document with intention. To make everyday moments look and feel like art. And to take up space without having to explain why I deserve to be there.
Sheβs blooming loud.
Sheβs grounded in purpose.
And sheβs really that girl.
xo,
Rozay
